At St. Louis South Oral Surgery, Dr. Steven Hribernik and Dr. William Gray realize that having a tooth extracted can produce discomfort and anxiety. The doctors and staff will do everything they can to minimize your discomfort and gently and compassionately assist you throughout the process. It is important for you to understand the various reasons why the oral surgeon feels an extraction is necessary.
Some reasons why your dentist or oral surgeon may determine that you need a tooth extraction:
- Severe decay
- Advanced periodontal disease
- Non-repairable crack
- Broken and cannot be repaired
- Abscess (infection)
- Inadequate room in the jaw (dental crowding)
- Poor position (impacted teeth)
- In preparation for orthodontic treatment
Extractions can be performed in the office using local anesthesia, with or without general anesthesia.

Molar extraction with sedation - I don't know how it could have gone any better than it did! Calista was beyond caring and compassionate and carefully explained what to expect every step of the way. Dr. Hribernik actually takes time to listen to concerns and to explain what is going on and the results spoke for themselves - excellent outcome!

I was sent over by my dentist in the middle of a tooth extraction. I was a mess and the staff was so friendly especially Bailey one of the assistants, she calmed me down and was so down to earth and made me feel so much better. She even went as far as staying in the room while they extracted my tooth even though she didn't have to. Overall they turned a horrible experience into a better one!
